Here are some of my
favourite quotes. Keep checking this page as I will be adding more and more
quotes...
"Nothing is apparently more helpless, yet really more
invincible, than the soul that feels its nothingness, and relies wholly on
God." PK 174
"There is no limit to the usefulness of the one who, putting
self aside, makes room for the working of the Holy Spirit upon his heart, and
lives a life wholly consecrated to God." ChS 254
”Brethren and sisters, it is by beholding that we become changed. By
dwelling upon the love of God and our Saviour, by contemplating the perfection
of the divine character and claiming the righteousness of Christ as ours by
faith, we are to be transformed into the same image.” CCh, 80
”In the full light of day, and in hearing of the music of other
voices, the caged bird will not sing the song that his master seeks to teach
him. He learns a snatch of this, a trill of that, but never a separate and
entire melody. But the master covers the cage, and places it where the bird
will listen to the one song he is to sing. In the dark, he tries and tries
again to sing that song until it is learned, and he breaks forth in perfect
melody. Then the bird is brought forth, and ever after he can sing that song in
the light. Thus God deals with His children. He has a song to teach us, and
when we have learned it amid the shadows of affliction we can sing it ever
afterward.” MH, 472
”If the loving-kindness of God called forth more thanksgiving and
praise, we would have far more power in prayer. We would abound more and more
in the love of God and have more bestowed to praise Him for. You who complain
that God does not hear your prayers, change your present order and mingle
praise with your petitions. When you consider His goodness and mercies you will
find that He will consider your wants.” 5T 317
"The reason why so many are left to themselves in places of
temptation is that they do not set the Lord always before them. When we permit
our communion with God to be broken, our defense is departed from us. Not all
your good purposes and good intentions will enable you to withstand evil. You
must be men and women of prayer. Your petitions must not be faint, occasional,
and fitful, but earnest, persevering, and constant. It is not always necessary
to bow upon your knees in order to pray. Cultivate the habit of talking with
the Saviour when you are alone, when you are walking, and when you are busy
with your daily labor. Let the heart be continually uplifted in silent petition
for help, for light, for strength, for knowledge. Let every breath be a prayer.”
— MH 510, 511.
"The greatest victories to the church of Christ or to the
individual Christian are not those that are gained by talent or education, by
wealth or the favor of men. They are those victories that are gained in the
audience chamber with God, when earnest, agonizing faith lays hold upon the
mighty arm of power.” PP, 203
“The greatest blessing that God can give to man is the spirit of
earnest prayer. All heaven is open before the man of prayer....The ambassadors
of Christ will have power with the people after they have, with earnest
supplication, come before God.” Pr 83
“There is no danger that the Lord will neglect the prayers of His
people. The danger is that in temptation and trial they will become
discouraged, and fail to persevere in prayer.” COL 175
“Prayer and Faith will do what no power on earth can accomplish.”
MH 509
“Personal effort for others should be preceded by much secret
prayer; for it requires great wisdom to understand the science of saving souls.
Before communicating with men, commune with Christ. Let your heart break for
the longing it has for God, for the living God. The life of Christ has shown
what humanity can do by being partaker of the divine nature. All that Christ
received from God we too may have. Then ask and receive. With the persevering
faith of Jacob, with the unyielding persistence of Elijah, claim for yourself
all that God has promised.” COL 149
“It was because Elijah was a man of large faith that God could use
him in this grave crisis in the history of Israel. As he prayed, his faith
reached out and grasped the promises of Heaven, and he persevered in prayer
until his petitions were answered. He did not wait for the full evidence that
God had heard him, but was willing to venture all on the slightest token of
divine favor. And yet what he was enabled to do under God, all may do in their
sphere of activity in God’s service… Faith such as this is needed in the world
today—faith that will lay hold on the promises of God’s word and refuse to let
go until Heaven hears.” Pr 138
“I asked the angel why there was no more faith and power in Israel.
He said, “Ye let go of the arm of the Lord too soon. Press your petitions to
the throne, and hold on by strong faith. The promises are sure. Believe ye
receive the things ye ask for, and ye shall have them.” I was then pointed to
Elijah. He was subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly. His
faith endured the trial. Seven times he prayed before the Lord, and at last the
cloud was seen. I saw that we had doubted the sure promises, and wounded the
Saviour by our lack of faith.” EW 73
”Those who decide to do nothing in any line that will displease
God, will know, after presenting their case before Him, just what course to
pursue. And they will receive not only wisdom, but strength. Power for
obedience, for service, will be imparted to them, as Christ has promised.” DA

”The highest evidence of nobility in a Christian is self-control.
He who under abuse or cruelty fails to maintain a calm and trustful spirit robs
God of His right to reveal in him His own perfection of character. Lowliness of
heart is the strength that gives victory to the followers of Christ; it is the
token of their connection with the courts above.” DA 301
"The warfare against self is the greatest battle that was
ever fought." SC 27
"The strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving
and lovable Christian." HDL 2
"Not by painful struggles or wearisome toil, not by gift or
sacrifice, is righteousness obtained; but it is freely given to every soul who
hungers and thirsts to receive it." TMB 18
"None are so sinful that they cannot find strength, purity,
and righteousness in Jesus, who died for them." SC 35
"Often our plans fail that God's plans for us may
succeed." HDL 6
"All true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart work
with Christ. And if we consent, He will so identify Himself with our thoughts
and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will, that when
obeying Him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses. The will, refined
and sanctified, will find its highest delight in doing His service. When we
know God as it is our privilege to know Him, our life will be a life of
continual obedience. Through an appreciation of the character of Christ,
through communion with God, sin will become hateful to us." DA 668
"Know and believe the love that God has to us, and you are
secure; that love is a fortress impregnable to all the delusions and assaults
of Satan." TMB 119
"The closer you come to Jesus, the more faulty you will
appear in your own eyes; for your vision will be clearer, and your
imperfections will be seen in broad and distinct contrast to His perfect
nature." SC 44
"God never leads His children otherwise than they would
choose to be led, if they could see the end from the beginning and discern the
glory of the purpose which they are fulfilling as co-workers with Him."
HSL 11
"Often our plans fail that God’s plans for us may succeed. We
are never called upon to make a real sacrifice for God. Many things He asks us
to yield to Him, but in doing this we are but giving up that which hinders us
in the heavenward way. Even when called upon to surrender those things which in
themselves are good, we may be sure that God is thus working out for us some
higher good. In the future life the mysteries that here have annoyed and
disappointed us will be made plain. We shall see that our seemingly unanswered
prayers and disappointed hopes have been among our greatest blessings. We are
to look upon every duty, however humble, as sacred because it is a part of
God's service. Our daily prayer should be, 'Lord, help me to do my best. Teach
me how to do better work. Give me energy and cheerfulness. Help me to bring
into my service the loving ministry of the Saviour.'”–MH 474.
"God takes men as they are... They are not chosen because
they are perfect, but notwithstanding their imperfections, that through the
knowledge and practice of the truth, through the grace of Christ, they may
become transformed into His image." DA 294
"The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy
to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love. The
children of God are to manifest His glory. In their own life and character they
are to reveal what the grace of God has done for them." COL 415
"Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us of
which we know nothing. Those who accept the one principle of making the service
of God supreme will find perplexities vanish and a plain path before their
feet." HDL 13
"Unceasing prayer is the unbroken union of the soul with God,
so that life from God flows into our life; and from our life, purity and
holiness flow back to God." SC 98
"If we keep the Lord ever before us, allowing our hearts to
go out in thanksgiving and praise to Him, we shall have a continual freshness
in our religious life. Our prayers will take the form of a conversation with
God as we would talk with a friend. He will speak His mysteries to us
personally. Often there will come to us a sweet joyful sense of the presence of
Jesus. Often our hearts will burn within us as He draws nigh to commune with us
as He did with Enoch. When this is in truth the experience of the Christian,
there is seen in his life a simplicity, a humility, meekness, and lowliness of
heart, that show to all with whom he associates that he has been with Jesus and
learned of Him." COL 129
"To praise God in fullness and sincerity of heart is as much
a duty as is prayer. We are to show to the world and to all the heavenly
intelligences that we appreciate the wonderful love of God for fallen humanity
and that we are expecting larger and yet larger blessings from His infinite
fullness. Far more than we do, we need to speak of the precious chapters in our
experience. After a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit, our joy in the Lord
and our efficiency in His service would be greatly increased by recounting His
goodness and His wonderful works in behalf of His children." COL 299
“To all who are reaching out to feel the guiding hand of God, the
moment of greatest discouragement is the time when divine help is nearest. They
will look back with thankfulness upon the darkest part of their way. “The Lord
knoweth how to deliver the Godly.” 2 Peter 2:9. From every temptation and every
trial He will bring them forth with firmer faith and a richer experience. DA
528.
"The Father’s presence encircled Christ, and nothing befell
Him but that which infinite love permitted for the blessing of the world. Here
was His source of comfort, and it is for us. He who is imbued with the Spirit
of Christ abides in Christ. The blow that is aimed at him falls upon the
Saviour, who surrounds him with His presence. Whatever comes to him comes from
Christ. He has no need to resist evil, for Christ is his defense. Nothing can
touch him except by our Lord’s permission, and “all things” that are permitted “work
together for good to them that love God.” Romans 8:28. MB 71
"Every promise in the Word of God is for us. In your prayers,
present the pledged word of Jehovah and by faith claim His promises. His word
is the assurance that if you ask in faith, you will receive all spiritual
blessings. Continue to ask, and you will receive exceeding abundantly above all
that you ask or think. Educate yourself to have unlimited confidence in God.
Cast all your care upon Him. Wait patiently for Him, and He will bring it to
pass." HP 71
"Success in any line demands a definite aim." CSA 64
"Our influence upon others depends not so much upon what we
say as upon what we are. Men may combat and defy our logic, they may resist our
appeals; but a life of disinterested love is an argument they cannot gainsay. A
consistent life, characterised by the meekness of Christ, is a power in the
world." DA 141
"A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no
ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust. Your hope
is not in yourself; it is in Christ. Your weakness is united to His strength,
your ignorance to His wisdom, your frailty to His enduring might. So you are
not to look to yourself, not to let the mind dwell upon self, but look to
Christ. Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection, of
His character. Christ in His self-denial, Christ in His humiliation, . . .
Christ in His matchless love—this is the subject for the soul's contemplation.
It is by loving Him, copying Him, depending wholly upon Him, that you are to be
transformed into His likeness."—SC 70, 71
"If we surrender our lives to His service, we can never be
placed in a position for which God has not made provision. Whatever may be our
situation, we have a Guide to direct our way; whatever may our perplexities, we
have a sure Counselor; whatever our sorrow, bereavement, or loneliness, we have
a sympathizing Friend. If in our ignorance we make missteps, Christ does not
leave us. His voice, clear and distinct, is heard saying, 'I am the Way, the
Truth, and the Life.'"—COL 173
All who are under the training of God need the quiet hour for
communion with their own hearts, with nature, and with God. In them is to be
revealed a life that is not in harmony with the world, its customs, or its
practices; and they need to have a personal experience in obtaining a knowledge
of the will of God. We must individually hear Him speaking to the heart. When
every other voice is hushed, and in quietness we wait before Him, the silence
of the soul makes more distinct the voice of God. He bids us, “Be still, and
know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10. This is the effectual preparation for all
labor for God. Amidst the hurrying throng, and the strain of life’s intense
activities, he who is thus refreshed will be surrounded with an atmosphere of
light and peace. He will receive a new endowment of both physical and mental
strength. His life will breathe out a fragrance, and will reveal a divine power
that will reach men’s hearts. – MH 58.3
"When temptations assail you, when care and perplexity
surround you, when, depressed and discouraged, you are ready to yield to
despair, look to Jesus, and the darkness that encompasses you will be dispelled
by the bright shining of His presence." MHH 39
"In sorrow and affliction, when the outlook seems dark and
the future perplexing, and we feel helpless and alone,--these are the times
when, in answer to the prayer of faith, the Holy Spirit brings comfort to the
heart. " Acts of the Apostles, 51
